BMW 2002s were not originally equipped with air conditioning from the factory, but AC was instead a dealer- installed option. The majority of these installations were either a Behr system or a Fridgidking system that used the upright York piston compressor. The York compressor is big, heavy and relatively inefficient. The fact that it resembles a Briggs and Stratton lawnmower engine is only coincidental.
Why Hobiedave?
In 2011, Dave Donoghue, an avid BMW 2002 enthusiast and valued contributor to the 2002 community, created a bracket initially for personal use. Due to popular demand, he started producing small batches to share with fellow enthusiasts, making them available under his username “02hobiedave” on BMW2002FAQ. These brackets quickly gained recognition for their precise fit and exceptional durability, earning widespread acclaim. The name “Hobiedave” became synonymous with quality and reliability in the BMW 2002 community.
